The curtain rose for Betsey Johnson's "Sweet Charity" Broadway debut to rave reviews at the Promenade. Models appeared "on stage" with such sexy smirks you'd swear they knew a secret. Perhaps they did. They had just come from Betsey's backstage champagne toast to her expecting daughter and "Baby Layla." A neon yellow/black and blue zebra backdrop set the tone for this hip grandma's youthful collection. Her flirty models walked to crowd pleasing Kanye West and U2 that got even Janice Dickinson dancing out of her seat. Empire waisted baby-doll dresses ruled in electric blue satin and antiqued black velvet. She also showcased a plethora of plaid with signature bold safety pins. Fur detailing showed up on a few of the dressier pieces but it was the final studded "heart breaker" satin dress that deserved an encore. Bravo Betsey!
