Giorgio Armani Continues To Lay Into Prada and Dolce & Gabbana

Fashion Designer Giorgio Armani continues to rail on other fashion companies for their choices and business practices. If you recall not too long ago, at Milan Fashion Week, Giorgio Armani laid into Dolce & Gabbana and Prada for how they were running their fashion houses. Giorgio Armani made comments like they make “ridiculous” men’s fashion, all because “fashion today is in the hands of the banks and of the stock market.” Well, in the latest fashion news, Mr. Armani continues to lay in to the rival fashion brands.

After Diego Della Valle, CEO of Prada’s parent company shot back comments that Giorgio’s attack does not make any sense, and even went so far as to suggest it was Armani’s advanced age that caused him to speak so freely. Giorgio Armani responded with a letter saying “I don’t need alliances, complicity, or need to surround myself with international jetsetters,” he wrote. “I have too much respect for myself, for the public, and for the people that work both with me and the fashion industry to renounce any sort of intellectual honesty that influences and orients my life, even at the expense of attractive economic opportunities … I don’t need any of the money from the stock exchange — not for growth, not for globalization, not to aggregate my brand.”

Actress Gwyneth Paltrow decided to go topless for Vanity Fair’s latest issue. Gwyneth Paltrow shows off her modeling capabilities and how stunning she can look, with so little on. Personally I was pretty stunned by some of the photos, but stunned in a good way. I think it is crucial when an actor or actress can show how versatile they are, and Gwyneth Paltrow did just that when she modeled in nothing but a pair of fishnet stockings to show off several Louis Vuitton sparklers for Vanity Fair’s special jewelry section.

Recently on Gwyneth Paltrow’s blog, she talked about stress, saying, ““I have never been very good at handling stress (though a bit of meditation helps), and I wanted some very practical ways of reducing it that I could use during the course of my day. I got some good answers that don’t require a 90-minute yoga class, or flying to a hippie style silent retreat (I’ve actually done one – don’t ask), just simple things that we all have access to. Here they are!”

Former Spice Girl turned fashion designer, Victoria Beckham who is currently pregnant, has recently released plans for a new and affordable clothing line. Victoria Beckham has disclosed her plans to launch a less expensive fashion line called Victoria by Victoria Beckham. Beckham is the wife of soccer star David Beckham, who is releasing his own fashion line of underwear. It is like the Beckhams are capitalizing on everything they can from fashion to stardom.

The ‘Victoria’ line will show more appeal to the younger consumer because of the style choice for this line as well as price range. The dress will be bright-colored, 60′s styled mod, coupled with the inspiration of fictional cartoon character Emily the Strange and priced from $550-$900. Former Spice Girl and entertainer Geri Halliwell is going to design her own line of evening dresses. Geri Halliwell seems to be following in the footsteps of band mate Victoria Beckham who has great success since the launch of her own collection – which she showcases in New York Fashion Week. I wonder if Halliwell becoming a fashion designer, and competing with her former band member, will stir up some bad blood between the two.

Geri Halliwell will be creating a range of dresses for high street store Next, which will be released later this year. If you recall, this is on the heels of her high demand holiday collection that she helped design for the store. Geri Halliwell said recently in an interview, “I’ve been sketching everything myself. I’m thrilled with the results. The dresses are not stupidly expensive but they are elegant and beautiful.” I am curious and hopeful for what Halliwell has to offer to the fashion world.

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian and NBA player Kris Humphries wedding is getting closer and closer. Knowing how Kim Kardashian is, and seeing her fashion tastes on Keeping Up With The Kardashians, one can only expect an incredibly extravagant and lush mega-wedding from the engaged couple. The $2 million dollar ring that Kris Humphries gave to Kim as an engagement ring already speaks volumes as to what we should be expecting.

With that said, it is no surprise that Kim Kardashian, the bride to be, was spotted at designer Vera Wang’s Madison Avenue boutique recently. Kim Kardashian, who was dressed in a leopard print one piece, and was joined by her sister Khloe, and their reality tv camera crew. Vera Wang has been a family friend of the Kardashian family, and designed the dress that younger sister Khloe wore when she married Los Angeles Laker Lamar Odom in November 2009.

Fashion designer Michael Kors, who was one of the founding judges on the hit show Project Runway, is trying to raise $500 million via a sale of a stake in his company to raise money for global expansion plans. In an ongoing trend of Fashion Designers turning their fashion houses into corporate empires, Michael Kors seems to be hopping on the band wagon. A press release said, “The company could sell a stake of about 25 percent in the coming months in what would be one of the fashion industry’s largest deals of recent years.”

If Michael Kors sold a 25 percent stake of his company for $500 million, it would boost his net revenue to $2 billion, which is twice the company’s annual revenue. If this works out like Michael Kors and his team of brains planned it will, Kors would be valued higher than Italian fashion giant Prada, which went public this month on the Hong Kong stock exchange. “I think you could argue that Michael Kors deserves a richer valuation because they’ve got a lot more room to grow in places like Europe and Asia,” Robert Burke, president of Robert Burke Associates, a consulting firm to the luxury industry.

Disney pop star and singer Justin Bieber was at the center of a chaotic scuffle that broke out in New York City. Right outside of the famous New York City Macy’s Department store, when Justin Bieber went to go greet his adoring fans outside, they broke through the barricade and cause a huge scene and scuffle. Justin Bieber was at the Macy’s store for a promotional event for his new fragrance called “Someday”. Bieber’s PR person had to do some immediate damage control after the little scuffle.

Justin Bieber’s publicist said in an email, “This was a momentary, well-intentioned misunderstanding that was quickly resolved, and the event went very well.” When the scuffle did break out, police officers and Bieber’s personal security detail quickly surrounded him and whisked him away before any sort of harm could befall the young singer. According to the NYPD, Beiber’s reps contacted them because he wanted to go outside to greet fans so they set up small pen where he could do so.
